Jakarta Philharmonic Orchestra Live in Concert

Jakarta Philharmonic Orchestra is the oldest orchestra group in Indonesia. As a part of the history of the development of orchestral music in Indonesia, they are Jakarta’s most notable assets.

As appreciation for their works, the Jakarta Tourism and Culture presents Jakarta Philharmonic Orchestra in Concert on 28th November 2013 at Gedung Teater Jakarta Taman Ismail Marzuki. In this concert, they will feature classical repertoire and Indonesian songs ever played in the early days of Jakarta Philharmonic Orchestra.

Jakarta Philharmonic Orchestra was founded in 1912. At the beginning, Jakarta Philharmonic Orchestra named NIROM (Netherlands Indische Radio Omroep Maatschaapij). Along the way, in 1950 NIROM divided into two orchestras, which became Jakarta Radio Orchestra which played classical repertoire and the Jakarta Studio Orchestra which played Indonesian songs.

In 1968, Jakarta Radio Orchestra and the Jakarta Studio Orchestra regrouped into one and named the Jakarta Symphony Orchestra. The group led by Adhidarma and FX Sutopo. In that time, they became the fixed orchestra for Indonesian Republic Radio (RRI). Now, the Jakarta Symphony Orchestra changed the name to Jakarta Philharmonic Orchestra.

Jakarta Philharmonic Orchestra in Concert 2013 also will be a moment to commemorate few arts leaders, especially of those who formed the Jakarta Philharmonic Orchestra, namely Suka Hardjana, FX Sutopo (R.I.P), Suwanto Kelvin, Sudomo (R.I.P), Nursyiwan Lesmana (R.I.P), Embong Rahardjo (R.I.P), Tony Kelvin, Amir Katamsi (R.I.P), and others.
